Climate change has forced millions to flee their homes, especially in Asia

  • As the number of climate disasters increase, more people are also being forced to flee their homes, especially in Asia.
  • A record 32.6 million internal displacements were associated with disasters in 2022 — more than the 28.3 million displaced by conflict and violence that same year.
  • Four of the top five countries with the highest number of new internal displacements due to disasters in 2022 were in Asia.
  • As the number of climate disasters increase, more people are being forced to flee their homes, especially in Asia.

Mpox transmission stays low globally; mixed regional patterns

Global mpox transmission continues at low levels, though two regions—Southeast Asia and Africa—reported increases in recent weeks, the World Health Organization (WHO) said in its latest update on the outbreak.

Since the last update on May 26, 552 new cases have been reported, reflecting a slight rise of 0.6%. Also, the WHO received reports of four more related deaths.

Global COVID markers decline, but hot spots remain in Asia and the Mideast

Though COVID-19 cases and deaths continued to decline over the past 4 weeks, the World Health Organization (WHO) is tracking rises in two of its regions, South East Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean. In its weekly update today, it also noted rises in individual countries in other parts of the world.
