Scenario Injection 1: Cholera Outbreak

INJECTION: CHOLERA OUTBREAK (EVENT +3 WEEKS)

Poor sanitation conditions caused by the rapid growth of IDP/refugee camps along the Cambodia-Vietnam border, and the failure of sewage infrastructure have triggered the outbreak of Cholera at epidemic levels. More than 8,000 have contracted the disease with 675 deaths attributable to the disease. The death rate has surged in the region further complicating the health situation particularly among the young and the elderly.
The government of Vietnam has initiated a campaign to warn refugees of the outbreak and to get them to follow sanitation guidelines. Additionally, international aid organizations have shipped water purification and sanitation field systems to regional airfields and require in-country support to establish these systems in affected areas.
Antibiotics and other medical supplies are available at harbor/airfield sites. Land/air transport are required to move supplies to affected areas.
