By committing to this goal, NYC has become the largest city in the world to do so, and joins cities like Los Angeles, London, Boston, and Berlin.

> Our plan, One City: Built to Last – Transforming New York City’s Buildings for a Low-Carbon Future, includes a commitment to reduce our building-based emissions by 30% by 2025. To help us get to this goal, we will conduct a technical analysis to collect and analyze energy use data across multiple building sectors and launch a task force to create specific energy performance standards for new construction and performance targets for public and private buildings. Interim goals will trigger mandates if they are not met.

We are leading by example as a City government by making direct investments in public buildings to make them more energy efficient, and we have a goal to retrofit every City-owned building with significant energy use by 2025. We are also launching a “Retrofit Accelerator” to help buildings in the private sector implement the energy efficiency measures recommended in their Local Law 87 energy audits.
