> Expert Meeting: The Role of Disaster Insurance in Improving Resilience <http://nationalacademies.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5dc4a6f3f17fd11adf3be4912&id=2d60bb5cdc&e=28eb5202ef>. This event brought together experts to examine the role insurance can play in promoting resilience in the United States, specifically to flood and earthquakes. > Expert Meeting: Supply Chain Resilience <http://nationalacademies.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5dc4a6f3f17fd11adf3be4912&id=4374e0bb50&e=28eb5202ef>. In May, we hosted a gathering of supply chain principals and operators with experience in food, water, medical goods, fuel, trucking, telecommunications, and electrical power, as well as public sector participants representing emergency management, infrastructure protection, civil and environmental engineering, homeland security, and councils of government. The discussions focused on methods to identify supply chain vulnerabilities, enhance recovery of supply chains following a major disaster, and a better understanding of how supply chains are dependent on each other and on critical infrastructure. > Armchair Discussion: Building Resilience through Science <http://nationalacademies.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5dc4a6f3f17fd11adf3be4912&id=8c260798c0&e=28eb5202ef>. What does “resilience” mean to communities, and what kinds of information, tools, and data do communities need to make decisions that will increase their resilience and minimize their risks? Dr. Kathryn D. Sullivan, Administrator of NOAA, The Honorable Samuel Adams, Former Mayor of Portland Oregon and current Director of the US Climate Initiative at the World Resources Institute, and Dr. Ralph J. Cicerone, President of the National Academy of Sciences, answered these questions during a discussion about building resilience through science. Members of the Resilient America Roundtable met with stakeholders in Charleston, SC from the public, private, nonprofit and academic sectors of the community to explore what community resilience looks like in the region and identify and discuss community resilience challenges and goals.
