Resilience, Risk and Vulnerability at Sida - Final Report
Sat, 2013-03-09 19:46 — Kathy GilbeauxSwedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida)
This report reviews the interventions of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) that have strong implications for increasing resilience and reducing vulnerability to natural disasters, and it aims at improving the understanding of how Sida has worked with these issues so far and how the work can be further strengthened. The report combines findings from a mapping phase with more in-depth analysis of resilience initiatives related to climate change adaptation, agriculture and water hazards.
The purpose of the study presented in the report is to:
- Clarify the proportion and type of interventions aimed at or important for reducing people's vulnerability to naturally caused crises and disasters.
- Identify gaps and linkages between humanitarian and long-term development cooperation, in order to increase understanding of possible opportunities for transition between the two and the value of interventions focusing on prevention of disaster. It also aims at identifying possible links and synergies between global disaster risk reduction (DRR)/vulnerability programs.
- Identify and analyse common denominators for successful programmes, and provide initial suggestions for how Sida can improve its work to reduce vulnerability and increase resilience to natural hazards and extreme weather events.
