The Exo Housing Unit

The Exos are base housing units that make up the foundation of the Reaction housing system. They provide private living and sleeping quarters for a family of four within a climate-controlled environment. An Exo is durable enough to be stored on a long-term basis and stacks for efficient storage and transportation. Electrical power is delivered via a connector line that powers each unit's lighting and four wall outlets. The Exo's design allows for numerous configurations to meet any need or deployment condition.

Setting Up the Exo

There’s virtually no assembly required with the Reaction Housing System. An Exo shelter unit is transported in two pieces – a base (floor) and an upper shell (walls and roof). At a deployment site, the bases are unloaded first and placed where the completed Exos are to be located. Workers then lower the upper shells down onto the bases until they lock into place.  Inside, beds are lowered from their secured positions in the walls completing assembly. A small team of 4 people can easily move and assemble a single Exo shelter unit in well under two minutes with no tools or heavy machinery needed.

Transportation

From a centrally located storage facility, the Exo system can easily be loaded, then transported to a deployment site in an extremely rapid time frame. Several deployment sites potentially housing tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people, could be set up in under twenty-four hours, depending mainly on distance from storage facilities to deployment location. The Exos are designed so they can be transported over US interstate highways without a wide load designation in most states. Since the units stack, they can also be moved in mass via rail, ships, or even cargo aircraft.

Communities

The Reaction Housing System can be activated to house hundreds of thousands of people through large deployment sites. These sites contain thousands of Exo shelter units and are organized into zones, which act as city boroughs or neighborhoods for the sites. These zones are made up of small clusters of Exo shelters. A cluster may contain anywhere from four to eight individual Exo shelter units arranged into a semi-circular fashion. This configuration creates a common area in the center of the pod that acts as a semi private setting for gatherings. Each cluster would also contain a special Exo version that acts as a shared bathroom facility dependent on deployment type.

Modular Hardware

The Exos were designed to be extremely flexible. Quickly changing interior fittings means an Exo can serve many purposes - a bedroom, an office, a living area. Changing floor plates means a unit can become a bathroom or kitchen while connecting units together creates larger spaces. It’s a complete ecosystem.
